Parkland Post – 21st January

This week

Welcome to this week’s Parkland Post.  We have had another busy week in school, our children have been keen to show off and talk about their learning.

Learning across school
Nursery have been baking biscuits together of the main characters in Julia Donaldson’s ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’.  They tried hard to make all of the biscuit characters fit in the house but simply couldn’t do it!  Reception have been developing their gross motor skills, ball control and how to work well in a team in PE.

Year 1 have been focusing on improving the world around us and specifically have been thinking about birds in our local area and why it is important to feed them.

Year 2 have been adding 2-digit numbers and have been thinking about how characters feel and explaining why.  They have used words which express different degrees of emotion to enhance their writing.

Years 3 and 4 have been learning about states of matter in science.  They know that materials can be classed as a solid, liquid or gas – why not ask them if they can do that with materials around your house.

Year 5 have been writing setting descriptions linked to the book they are reading, ‘Wuthering Heights’.

Year 6 have been creating natural sculptures, part of the work they are doing in Art as well as comparing, adding and subtracting fractions.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, the weather looks like it might be fine which will give you the perfect opportunity to get some fresh air and enjoy the outdoors. Miss Connors and Mrs Wierzbianski are always keen to hear about what our children have been up to at the weekend – remember you can send photographs via our Facebook page of the things they have been up to as we love to see it. We will see you bright and early on Monday morning!

Skills Builder Home Task

This weekend’s home task for Skills Builder is to make a picture of all the people you have listened to this week.  You could use photographs, pictures from magazines to create a collage, felt tips, colouring pencils – be as creative as you wish!

Time to Talk Day – 3rd February

On 3rd February, we will be marking MIND’s Time to Talk Day in school.  Our children will take part in activities during the day which will encourage them to strike up conversations, give time and space for them to discuss different issues and at playtime, we will be doing a walk and talk where we will incorporate our daily exercise with added chatting.
