Year One builds on the skills taught in Early Years and allows the children to develop their independence as learners even more. Much of our learning in Year One is through provision linked to children’s interests. Staff support children by questioning, modelling and structuring learning which means that children are keen and motivated to learn.
In Year One we have some free-flow time for learning outside. Children may choose to make a masterpiece in the woodwork area, build dens, make potions, build zip wires and rope swings. Our children are encouraged to take risks.
Inside, we have a variety of provision areas that change regularly depending on the children’s interests. The children have access to small world areas that they make themselves, painting, phonics, writing, maths, Design and Technology and a STEM area. Additionally, other areas may be created as and when a child expresses a new interest.
