Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

At Co-op Academy Parkland we know that Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education and  Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSC) must be promoted. We also  have a duty of care to keep our pupils safe. Age-appropriate teaching of PSHE can help prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. We use the Jigsaw PSHE scheme to facilitate this learning alongside the Co-op values curriculum. This includes statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving our  children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.

It has a vital place in the curriculum and it contributes to the school as a whole, particularly the whole school ethos, safeguarding and the contribution to SMSC. The themes within Jigsaw PSHE  -Being Me in My World; Celebrating Difference; Dreams and Goals; Healthy Me; Relationships and Changing Me align with our Co-op values of Be yourself always; Show you care; Do what matters most  and Succeed together. British Values and SMSC are mapped throughout Jigsaw, alongside the daily assemblies. PSHE education helps pupils to achieve their academic potential, and leave school equipped with skills and knowledge they will need to be the best version of themselves. It also  helps children to understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the wider world. Our curriculum has a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing both mental and physical health.
