Parkland Post - Friday 14th February 2025

Welcome to our final Parkland Post of the spring half term.  I have been reflecting on all of the fabulous things we have done and achieved since January and I'm not surprised that everyone is ready for a week off!  We have had some wonderful family events such as the Year 6 sewing afternoon yesterday, our BIG Family Breakfast, the KS1 Maths Family workshops, Spelling Bee, GoIT event, Roman Day in Y4, the football tournament at Co-op Academy Priesthorpe and so many more pupil experiences!  In this morning's Celebration Assembly, I was thrilled with the number of Silver and Gold certificates I gave out - I especially loved that one pupil said they had never received a silver award before!  Let's keep going with our push on increased attendance.

Attendance Matters

This week, there were 3 classes who received an extra playtime as their attendance was over 96% so well done to Years 3, 4 and 5!  There is such a buzz in the hall on a Friday when we are announcing which class has won the award for the week.  Another new award we gave out this half term was 'Most Improved Attendance Award' - we are so proud of these children because it will make such a difference with their learning.

Class Attendance Reward

We announced the winner of the Class Attendance Award in assembly this morning and to say it was a close run thing is an understatement!  We took into account attendance and number of lates and it meant that Year 3 just pipped Year 4 as the winners!  Year 3 had an afternoon doing Aerial Hoop with YACAD (Yorkshire Academy of Creative Arts and Dance) and that had a snacks and sweets station to feast on!  We will let you know what next half term's class attendance treat will be once we return after the holidays and remember, you have to be in it to win it! We want to say a huge thank you to the staff at YACAD for running the session this afternoon - Jess, Ceri and Jenny are quite simply amazing!!

EYFS New Build update

The new Nursery and Reception space in what used to be our KS1 classrooms is well underway!  The construction team have been busy working away at creating what will be a welcoming and purposeful learning environment.  We will keep you updated with photographs over the next couple of weeks.

Uniform

Please make sure that your children have the correct uniform as we start the next half term.  There have been a lot of children wearing multiple earrings, necklaces and bracelets.  Please be aware that it is one pair of studded earrings and a watch are the only items of jewellery that should be worn and acrylic nails or nail varnish are also not to be worn.  Please refer to our uniform requirements here:

And finally...

We would like to thank all of our school community for supporting us this half term, we love welcoming you into our academy for the various events and we will have many more planned for next half term. I'm hoping the temperatures over the half term break will get a bit warmer so everyone can get out and about.  I am going to be spending my week with my daughter and making sure that Jet gets lots of walks otherwise he will start to sulk!  Mrs Shirra is going to be doing lots of exercise classes and enjoying days out with her family.  Ms Pascoe is going to London with her family and will be doing lots of exciting things whilst she is there and Mr Watson will be going to London to see his friends from his hometown.  Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a wonderful time.  We return bright and early on Monday 24th February where our doors will open at 8:40am ready for learning to begin at 8:45am.
