A bright start: Parkland's new early years space opens

Co-op Academy Parkland's brand new Early Years classrooms welcomed our Reception and Nursery children on Monday 3 March, marking the culmination of a four-week transformation.
Building work was completed on Friday 28 February. The renovation of a former classroom and two intervention spaces allowed children to step into their new learning environment on Monday morning, a testament to the incredible dedication of our staff who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend.
The new area brings both the nursery and reception children together in the same space to follow the Early Years framework.
The bright modern space includes two large interconnected classrooms, which are divided by a movable partition wall. This flexible space can respond to the needs of the children, being divided for focused activities and opened into one for collaborative play in our many provision areas.
The provision is carefully planned by our experienced practitioners to ensure that it provides opportunities for the children to practise and rehearse new skills that they have learnt and also challenges them to achieve their next steps in learning.
We follow a carefully sequenced curriculum that has clear links to the whole school curriculum, ensuring that our pupils leave the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful as they move through school. Staff use this curriculum to plan enhancements and independent challenges for the children to access, ensuring that they have opportunities to use and apply the new knowledge and skills they have acquired through the teaching of the EYFS curriculum.
Relocating children to the main building fosters a sense of community, easing the transition to Year 1 and providing valuable opportunities for older pupils to support our youngest learners. Our older children can’t wait to come and share stories with the Early Years children, or to carry out their responsibilities as Eco Warriors and Wellbeing Ambassadors.
Head of School Charlotte Wierzbianski expressed her delight, saying, “After months of planning, it's wonderful to see the joy this new space brings to our children and their families.”
She added, 'I'm immensely grateful for the extraordinary dedication of our staff, who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to ensure a smooth transition for our children. Their commitment to maximizing every learning moment is truly inspiring.'”
“We are also thrilled to partner with the Yorkshire Academy of Creative Arts & Dance (YACAD), who will be utilizing the former nursery building to provide valuable wraparound care, engaging holiday programmes, and community activities. We are proud to work together to offer amazing activities for the local community.”
Did you know, children can start at our Nursery the term after they turn 3 years old. If your child has turned three recently, please contact the school office to enquire about places in our nursery.
