Parkland Post - Friday 28th March 2025

Welcome to this week’s Parkland Post! It has been a week full of learning and really positive experiences for our children. We have had the University of Bradford in doing some STEM workshops for our Years 3 and 4 children. They got the opportunity to work with Thomas and create bath bombs which they all enjoyed taking part in. The children can also have their passports signed as part of the Children's University programme we are taking part in. A huge thank you to Thomas for the full day of workshops and for teaching new skills and inspiring young minds.
Attendance Matters
This week, our whole school attendance was 89.5% which is below our target of 96% so we have a lot of work to do as we go into the final week of the spring term. Let's see if we can smash 96% next week, have every class winning an extra playtime and finishing on a record high! The winning class this week was Year 1 with 95.8% and they won a new classroom game on the Attendance Wheel - well done!
Year 2 Artist Visit
This week, our Year 2 children had a visit from Miss Walker's grandad Bob Barker who is an incredibly talented artist. He spent the afternoon with Year 2 talking about the various techniques he uses and how to create different effects with pencil and charcoal in the Impressionist style. I was blown away by the quality of their finished artwork - Kayleigh brought hers to me and I'm going to have it framed and displayed in my office.
Great British Spring Clean
On Monday, our School Council and Co-op Young Leaders came together as part of the Great British Spring Clean. They wore their high viz jackets and had litter pickers so they could help to make our grounds look smart. They came back and said they couldn't believe how messy people have been just leaving things in our plants and bushes and that they were glad that they had been able to help improve things. They all embodied two of our Ways of Being: Show You Care and Succeed Together.
'Just Dance' and Dine
We had the most amazing 'Just Dance and Dine' yesterday after school. So many families came along to have a bit of a boogie and sit down together to eat. Paula, our Community Pioneer, made the most delicious Pasta Bolognese and Veggie Pasta that it was hard to choose between the two! Thank you to everyone who came along to support us and to everyone who helped to organise (especially Mrs Flaherty and Paula Garner) and run the event. Keep an eye out for the next date for Dance and Dine.
Wellbeing Ambassadors' Assembly
Yesterday, our Wellbeing Ambassadors delivered an assembly on what wellbeing means and how they can support this in our academy. They asked some thought-provoking questions and then lapped around the hall checking in with what our children were discussing. They led the assembly so confidently and all of our pupils know who they can go to if they are struggling with their mental wellbeing.
And finally…
We hope you have a wonderful weekend whatever you decide to get up to. The weather doesn't look too bad - we might even get some sun! I will be trying to sort my garden if the weather allows and spending time with my daughter on Mother's Day, Mr Watson will be going to the Lake District with friends, Mrs Shirra will be catching up with her friends and Ms Pascoe will be getting her hair done. We will see you bright and early on Monday morning for our final week of the spring term where our doors will open at 8:40am ready for learning to begin at 8:45am - see you there!
